Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What are the system requirements for RPG Patsy?
A: RPG Patsy supports MacOS X 10.2+ and and pretty much any Windows OS with Java 1.41 or later installed.

Q: How much does RPG Patsy cost?
A: See our registration page for pricing.

Q: What if I want to use both the regular and Star Wars versions?
A: If you buy or have already bought a license for version 2.5 or DD35E you can use it with the SW version for free. If you buy the SW license and want to use the other versions you need to upgrade. License codes for version 4 are not backwards compatible. If you have a license for version 4.0 and want to use RPG Patsy SW, send me an e-mail and I'll give you a code to use with the SW version.

Q: What are the differences between all the versions of RPG Patsy?
A: Here's a list of all the differences I can think of:
  • Version 4.0 is the latest release. It has many new features including a character generator. It is intended for use with the 3.5 edition rules but most features are compatible with the 3rd edition rules as well.
  • Version 2.5 is for users who require strict compliance with 3rd edition rules. It lacks several features found in version 4.
  • The SW version is for the Star Wars RPG. It's similar to version 2.5 but it includes fewer tools because of differences in the game rules. Specifically, it has no spell caster sheet and there is no Spells tab.
  • For legal reasons there are no open gaming license materials included with the SW version (ie, skills, feats, and items have to be entered manually *or* use the data entry tools to share your work with your friends).
  • The interface and tools for each version are specific to the rules for that version.

Q: What are the limitations of the Demo version?
A: Until you register your copy of RPG Patsy you will not be able to save your character to file or print.

Q: Can I use the same character files between different versions of RPG Patsy?
A: Newer versions of RPG Patsy can open files from older versions but after saving the file you can't go back to using it with the older version. This means that you can use RPG Patsy DD35E to open a file from version 2.5 but after saving the file you can't go back to using it in 2.5. The exception to this is RPG Patsy SW, which uses its own file format.
