Tips and Tricks
- The ability to have multiple characters open in 2.5 and later allows for a host of cool stuff:
- Dungeon Masters can have multiple NPCs and monsters open and switch between them easily (for many generic creatures, just open the same file multiple times, this will load multiple copies of the file [differentiated by a # attached to their name])
- Character files can be created for a character's familiar and/or animal companions. Also character files can be created for summoned creatures and loaded as needed.
- Different character files may be maintained for alternate forms of a character or creature (Lycanthropes being an excellent example)
- Store game rules in the feats or skills tab. You can keep them separate from your skills or feats by placing a non-letter character at the beginning of its name (!,[,*,etc.). This will cause them to be lumped together (since skills and feats are sorted alphabetically).
- Verify that your spells are placed in the appropriate level for your class. The database from which spells are loaded have a default value which is correct for some classes, but may not be for others.
- If you desire to change to the weapon assigned to one of the roll damage buttons of the attack calculator, simply right click (or control-click) on the button and you list of weapons will be made available once more.
- Designating special abilities and modifiers as (Ex), (Su) & (Sp) can save time when dealing with dispel and antimagic effects.
- Spells which include a proper name in the title (in the source book) do not have the proper name included in the RPG Patsy database and must be added manually.
- Leave frequently used modifiers in the modifiers tool, even if it is from a spell which is not in effect at the moment (just have the 'Use' box unchecked). When the spell is cast again, rather than entering the spell from scratch, all you need to do is adjust the modifier (if necessary) and check the use box.
- Make sure to read the manual for a thorough look at RPG Patsy's functionality.
